TOP 5 Sustainability Trends to watch in 2025

Corporate Sustainability has made significant strides over the past year, partly driven by an increasingly stringent European regulatory framework.

In this context, companies must step up, both in terms of information and in raising awareness and setting an example regarding environmental issues.

According to a study conducted by MSCI, here are the main Sustainability Trends that will shape our 2025:

climate-adaptation-sustainability-2025

Climate change is already a reality: in Spain, average temperatures are rising by 0.3°C per decade.

  • All you need to know about the SDG 13.

Up to 84% of financial experts believe that over the next decade, the business world will undergo significant changes due to extreme weather events.

Back in 2023, 18% of the revenues generated from Green Bonds in public utilities were allocated specifically to finance adaptation to these changes.

renewable-energy-sustainability-2025
Since 2019, Spain has a Strategic Framework for Energy and Climate with three main pillars: mitigation, adaptation and fair transition.

Any transition process aimed at cleaner energy must focus on three fundamental pillars: electromobility, renewable energy and energy storage.

Additionally, it is estimated that the market for solutions with public investment will reach $4.4 trillion (while private investment will be around $200 billion).

carbon-market

The conceptual framework of carbon markets stems from the idea of using the market as a tool to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions

The quality of carbon credits has also improved significantly thanks to the Core Carbon Principles established by the TSVCM (Taskforce on Scaling Voluntary Carbon Markets).

This led to a 12% increase in demand for these credits between 2022 and 2024, with projections suggesting market growth capable of reaching $35 billion by 2030.

corporate-social-responsibility
Spanish companies invest over €1 billion in social projects.

Only those companies able to adopt socially responsible practices will achieve better results compared to their competitors.

The social dimension that environmental policies are acquiring has made them an absolute priority for all companies if they do not want to fall behind.

Moreover, today it is an essential element for maintaining an attractive brand image for customers.

generative-artificial-intelligence-responsible-use
In Spain, The National Green Algorithms Program (PNAV) aims to promote Artificial Intelligence based on environmental sustainability.

Almost half of companies (48%) worldwide still do not have policies regulating the use of Artificial Intelligence.

For this reason, the new AI Law promoted by the European Union, which will come into effect in 2025, seeks to define a clear and efficient regulatory framework to guide the responsible use of this technology.

As we can see, these trends not only reflect a considerable increase in social awareness regarding sustainability but also highlight the need to adapt to a constantly changing and growing world.

The proper implementation of these strategies will be crucial in facing upcoming environmental and social challenges.
